Clyde L. Briant, former Dean of Engineering and currently Brown's Vice President for Research, will be honored by his alma mater, Hendrix College with its 2011 Distinguished Alumnus Award. Briant will be recognized on Saturday, April 16, in the 45th annual presentation of the Alumni Association Awards. Briant completed the combined engineering program at Hendrix and Columbia University, where he also received his doctorate. Following a post-doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania, he joined the GE Research and Development Center and was awarded the Coolidge Fellowship, the highest honor given to a researcher. In 1994, he joined the Brown University engineering faculty and served as Dean of Engineering until he became Vice President for Research. In 2010, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering.
Hendrix College, founded in 1876, is located in Conway, Arkansas, a suburban city of 57,500 about 30 minutes from Little Rock.
